Cleveland Ave. project gets final approval Share
During its January 13 meeting, the Monee Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a series of measures finalizing all pre-construction steps for the Cleveland Ave. Realignment Project. One of those measures, ''Inducement Resolution for Cleveland Avenue Road Improvement Project,'' will enable the village to receive reimbursement for expenses incurred through the project. Once completed, the project will make traversing the intersection of Cleveland Ave. and Monee-Manhattan Rd. easier and safer, especially considering the high volume of truck traffic in the area. Drivers in the area can expect delays once construction begins, but often things must get worse before they get better. The board also approved a special use permit to be issued to Andrew Epperson for the operation of a church in combined units 102 and 103 of the property at 6370 Emerald Parkway. The request was heard last month by the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals, which forwarded it to the board with a letter of recommendation.

World Kitchen also received a favorable decision by the board to its request for TIF reimbursement in the amount of $56,416.73. Trustee Jim Huston raised an issue of child safety in areas of the village, specifically mentioning Country Meadows where he lives. Children are walking in the streets within the development because sidewalks are covered in snow. He said he is especially concerned because children find it necessary to walk in the streets on their way to school in the morning. It is still dark when many of them are on their way to school, and many are dressed in dark snow suits. ''It is a dangerous situation,'' he said. He wondered if something could be done by the village to get people to clear their walkways or at least clear a path along the walkway so the children would have somewhere besides the street to walk. Mayor Dan Tovo asked Huston if he would like to propose an ordinance requiring snow removal. Huston said he would much prefer a less official and mandatory approach to the problem. He suggested a request be issued and perhaps a reminder on the sign at the village hall. During the Open to the Public portion of the meeting, resident Tom Katskee requested the village resume salting Elder Lane. Salting of the Lane was discontinued last year in order to save money and salt. But with the money saving changes the board approved recently to its salt supply, some of those savings could be used to resume salting of the lane. Mayor Tovo said it would be taken care of.
