Many summer events slated at the Commons Share
New Lenox will host more than two dozen free events this summer, including movies, concerts, a wine tasting and a talent show featuring local performers. The Sunday, August 23, concert will be a special one, featuring the talented Lincoln-Way Central Marching Knights and North Marching Warriors. The summer programs opened on Sunday, with the New Lenox Community Band and the Lincoln-Way Area Chorale Concert on the Commons. On Saturday, June 13, an All-Village Dance Day begins at noon at the Commons, 1 Veterans Parkway, and on Sunday, Dave Rudolph will present his ''Beach Party'' interactive concert for all ages, beginning at 7 p.m. ''Kung Fu Panda'' will be the feature film on Wednesday, June 17, beginning at 8 p.m.

The Saturday, June 20, concert, Gin Blossoms, is the first of the Triple Play Concert Series. An admission ticket is required for the Triple Play Series, which includes Blues Traveler on Saturday, August 15, and Peter Frampton on Saturday, September 5. Tickets are $45 for the series and must be purchased in advance at the village hall. For ticket information, call the village hall at 815-462-6400. Meanwhile, on Sunday, June 21, the village will sponsor a JJC Alumni Jazz Band and Nate Jackson and his Studio Guitars Concert at 7 p.m. The final June movie, on June 24, will be ''Lemony Snicket Ð A Series of Unfortunate Events'' and begins at dusk, or about 8 p.m., while the Big Band-era music of the Teddy Lee Orchestra will be the final June concert, beginning at 7 p.m. Mid-summer events will open with the Wednesday, July 1, free movie, ''Shark Tale,'' at 8 p.m. Four more free movies will be shown in July, including ''Footloose'' (July 8), ''Sponge Bob Square Pants'' (July 15), ''The Wizard of Oz'' (July 22) and ''Madagascar 2'' (July 29). The Saturday, July 4, Celebration begins at 5 p.m. with children's activities, a pop music concert at 7 p.m., the Lions Club Raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m., a concert of patriotic music at 8:30 p.m. and a spectacular fireworks conclusion, beginning at 9:30 p.m. Another New Lenox Community Band concert, featuring Cloggin' Craze and Kidz Clog, will take to the Commons stage at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 12. On Saturday, July 18, the village will host a Wine and Jazz Night, with wine tasting at 6 p.m. and music of The Edgar Gabriel String Fusion Band beginning at 7 p.m. On Sunday, July 19, the village goes country with The Bernie Glim Band concert at 7 p.m. The Sunday, August 2, Concert on the Commons will feature The Neverly Brothers and their '50s to '70s pop/rock. Wednesday movies during August will be ''The Pink Panthers'' (August 5), ''Daddy Day Care'' (August 12), and ''Bolt'' (August 19), all beginning at dusk, or about 8 p.m. Additional Sunday concerts will be August 9, with the Jay Mau Orchestra/Tres Bella Big Band music; August 16, Stars on the Rise, featuring local talent; and August 23, the New Lenox Community Band and the Lincoln-Way Marching Knights and Marching Warriors. On Saturday, August 15, the Triple Play Concert features Grammy Award winner Blues Traveler, beginning at 8 p.m. The Saturday, September 5, Triple Play Concert will feature rock legend Peter Frampton. Opening acts for the Triple Play Concerts begin at 4:30 p.m. Featured performers start at 8 p.m. Events will go on rain or shine, unless the weather is very severe, village officials noted. Throughout the summer, the New Lenox Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Village Hall South Parking Lot, 1 Veterans Parkway. Russell Publications prints several community newspapers each week, serving Will, Kankakee and Cook counties.
