Cops Care coat drive Share
Chief Bob Sterba has announced the New Lenox police department's inaugural coat drive. With the active participation of New Lenox School District 122, the department will lead an effort to impress upon the youth of our village the value of service to community. Altruism is a value by which one serves others without an expectation of repayment or thought of self-interest. This challenge Ð the coat drive Ð is a prime example: It not only will help people keep warm this winter, it also will raise the consciousness of New Lenox children. The coat drive will conclude on October 17. Drop off points for those who wish to participate will be: Chamber of Commerce, at New Lenox Village Hall lower level, 1 Veterans Parkway; New Lenox Police Department, 701 W. Haven;

Morning Star Treasure Chest II, 2571 East Lincoln Hwy., New Lenox, will participate in this event, too. It will have coats available for anyone in need. Morning Star Treasure Chest II will provide a coat for anyone presenting a voucher. Vouchers will be available at the New Lenox Police Department, School District 122 and at the New Lenox Township building. This effort will be replicated next spring in the form of the annual food drive. Both drives will be annual events coordinated by the police department's Community Services Division and its School Resource Officer with the cooperation of New Lenox School District 122. Russell Publications prints several community newspapers each week, serving Will, Kankakee and Cook counties.
