Free pick-up of bagged leaves begin Oct. 22 Share
As an alternative to leaf burning, New Lenox will offer free pick-up of bagged leaves for six weeks beginning October 22. At the same time, senior citizens can get free brown paper leaf collection bags, in conjunction with the village contract with NuWay Disposal. Residents 65 or older can get up to 10 free yardwaste bags at the village hall, 1 Veterans Parkway. Residents who choose to place leaves in the brown collection bags do not have to affix yardwaste stickers during the free six-week period. Last day for free pick-up of leaves is Saturday, November 28, which coincides with the annual end-date of landscape waste facilities' season. Bags filled with leaves will be collected by NuWay Disposal on the same day as the residents' regular refuse. Yardwaste bags filled with grass clippings, garden waste and brush still require that yardwaste stickers be affixed to each bag.
